What Is Ravencoin (RVN)?

Ravencoin is a peer-to-peer blockchain that allows users to efficiently create and transfer tokens on the network from one party to another.

The native token of the network is RVN, which can be used for a variety of purposes, including minting NFTs representing real-world assets such as gold, event tickets, or airline miles.

In addition to allowing users to issue personalized assets on the network, Ravencoin also features one-minute block-creation times, a block reward of 2,500 RVN, and a maximum supply of 21 billion RVN.

How Does Ravencoin (RVN) Work?

Ravencoin started out as an open-source fork of Bitcoin’s original codebase before further developing its own features to coincide with the goal of the new blockchain: allowing users to quickly and easily make their own tokens that can be traded worldwide.

The network uses a proof-of-work (PoW) consensus mechanism similar to Bitcoin’s called KAWPOW. While similar to Bitcoin’s, KAWPOW has been redesigned to make it easier for users to mine RVN. To that end, Ranvencoin allows users to mine RVN with their own CPU instead of requiring specialized hardware.

Issuers can easily mint their own token — similar to creating an ERC-20 token on Ethereum — by burning (or destroying) their RVN tokens and providing a unique name for their new token. They can then define special characteristics for their token, such as fractionability, fungibility, and total number issued.

History of Ravencoin (RVN)

With funding from Overstock.com subsidiary Medici Ventures, Bruce Fenton and Tron Black launched Ravencoin in 2018 via a fork in the Bitcoin blockchain’s source code.

Instead of conducting public or private sales to investors, Ravencoin limited its token distribution to proof-of-work mining in an attempt to mimic Bitcoin’s successful launch back in 2009.

How To Buy Ravencoin

Buying RVN, the native cryptocurrency of the Ravencoin blockchain, is easy and follows the same protocol as buying other cryptocurrencies.

It starts with finding a crypto platform — like Binance.US — that supports RVN, provides access to other popular cryptocurrencies on the market, offers reasonable fees, and gives you resources and tools to help you make the right choices.

Once you’ve found a platform that works for you, create an account and fund it with fiat currency (government-backed money such as U.S. dollars).

A cold wallet is an offline space like an external hard drive. A hot wallet is an online space typically provided by the platform through which you made the purchase.

How To Sell Ravencoin

Selling Ravencoin is simple and follows the same steps as buying it.

Once you’ve opened an account on a crypto platform like Bianance.US, fund the account with fiat currency so you can buy Ravencoin. Another option for funding your account is to transfer RVN from another crypto ecosystem.

When you’ve got Ravencoin in your account, it’s just a matter of deciding how you want to sell it and then choosing from methods such as:

• A market order at the current market price
• A limit order at a future price you indicate
• A stop-limit order (sometimes known as a stop-loss), where you can set a stop price to trigger the sale at market price

Your crypto exchange will transfer fiat currency equal to the value of the RVN you sold. You may use it to purchase other cryptocurrencies or withdraw or transfer it.
