About AVAX
What Is Avalanche?
Avalanche is a next-generation blockchain network combining speed and scalability with smart contract compatibility. The native token of the Avalanche network is AVAX, which can be used to pay fees, transfer value, and help secure the network via staking.
The Avalanche network claims to be able to facilitate 4,500+ transactions per second, which would make it one of the fastest layer 1 networks in the blockchain space.
Avalanche’s layer 1 scalability makes it popular for a wide range of decentralized applications, including those focused on decentralized finance (DeFi).
How Does Avalanche Work?
Avalanche was built to prioritize scalability on the layer 1 level through Sub-networks, or customizable networks that define their own token economics and are secured by a dynamic set of Avalanche's validators.
Through its use of a combination of consensus methods (including the Avalanche consensus mechanism and Snowball consensus), the Avalanche protocol limits the importance of the order in which transactions take place when compared to other protocols. With less emphasis on their order, transactions are able to be rapidly broadcast across the network’s nodes.
The Avalanche protocol is secured by a Proof-of-Stake security model via the AVAX token. Proof-of-stake chains may prioritize eco-friendly security & fast transaction confirmation.
History of Avalanche
The idea for Avalanche started as an article published in May of 2018 by a group of software developers who called themselves Team Rocket. Shortly afterward, Emin Gun Sirer founded AVA Labs to create and develop the Avalanche blockchain.
Avalanche initiated an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in July 2020, which raised US $42 million in funding. Avalanche went live in September 2020 and has since become one of the largest blockchains on the market.
How To Buy Avalanche
To buy Avalanche, follow the procedure for purchasing other cryptocurrencies.
First, create an account on a crypto platform, like Binance.US, that offers the AVAX token. The right platform will give you the ability to:
- Buy, sell, and trade other cryptocurrencies
- Minimize the fees associated with each transaction
- Access the tools and information that can help you make the right choices
Second, verify your identity on the crypto platform and fund your account with fiat currency (government-backed money such as U.S. dollars).
Most crypto ecosystems will give you more than one way to do this, including:
- Bank or wire transfer
- Debit or credit card
- Link to an existing bank account
- Some other established payment services, such as Apple Pay (available on Binance.US but not on all platforms)
Third, log in to your account and specify how much AVAX you want to buy and when you want to buy it. Fourth, store your newly purchased Avalanche in a crypto wallet.
How To Sell Avalanche
To sell Avalanche, start by opening an account on a crypto platform, like Binance.US, if you haven’t already.
After you’ve opened an account and verified your identity, fund the account with fiat currency (government-backed money such as U.S. dollars) so that you can buy Avalanche. You can also transfer AVAX from another crypto ecosystem.
Once you’ve got Avalanche in your account, it’s just a matter of specifying the amount of AVAX you want to sell and when you want to sell it.
Binance.US gives you several options for doing this, including:
- A market order at the current market price
- A limit order at a future price you indicate
- A stop-limit order (sometimes known as a stop-loss), where you can set a stop price to trigger the sale at market price
When the sale of your AVAX is complete, the system will deposit the equivalent amount of fiat currency in your account for you to use to purchase other cryptocurrencies, withdraw, or pay for products and services.
How To Trade Avalanche
Trading Avalanche is just like buying and selling it and follows the same steps.
- Open an account with a crypto platform that allows users to trade AVAX
- Fund your account with the fiat currency of your choice
- Purchase AVAX through this platform or transfer it from another platform
- Use the tools, information, and resources provided by the platform to create and initiate a trade
Remember that the cryptocurrency market changes very quickly, and trading Avalanche — or any cryptocurrency, for that matter — can be difficult to time and execute correctly.
Before you initiate any trade orders, research and analyze the market to develop a strategy to guide your decision-making process.
How To Stake Avalanche
If you’re looking for a way to earn rewards without buying, selling, or trading, try staking your Avalanche.
When you stake AVAX, you dedicate some or all of your holdings so the platform can use them to secure the Avalanche blockchain and the proof-of-stake network on which it operates.
After you stake your AVAX, the crypto ecosystem generates rewards based on several different factors, including:
- The amount of AVAX staked
- Transaction fees accumulated from circulating assets
- Newly created block incentives
As with buying, selling, and trading, the right crypto platform — like Binance.US — will make staking AVAX as simple, secure, and convenient as possible.
